Scavenger Arraigned Over Alleged N1.5m Cable Theft in Akure

A 35-year-old scavenger, Suleiman Adams, was arraigned at the Akure Chief Magistrates Court on charges of conspiracy and stealing. He and an accomplice at large are accused of stealing cable wires and electrical equipment worth N1.5 million from Bolcent Oil and Gas Filling Station on March 10, 2026, along Akure-Owo Express Road. The prosecution, led by Inspector Nelson Akintimehin, said the offences violate Sections 516 and 390(4)(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Laws of Ondo State 2006. The prosecutor requested an adjournment to assemble witnesses. Adams pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of N750,000 with one surety of equal amount. The surety must show evidence of current-year tax payment and provide two passport photographs. The court ordered verification of the surety’s residence. Adams remains remanded at Olokuta correctional facility until bail conditions are met. The case was adjourned to April 11, 2026, for hearing.
