Asylum Seeker Sentenced to Six Years for Raping Vulnerable Man in Leicester Park
A 43-year-old asylum seeker was convicted of raping a 20-year-old man who had run away from home and was seeking help in Abbey Park, Leicester. He lured the victim with the promise of a bike, led him to a secluded area and carried out the assault. Recorder Sacha Ackland at Leicester Crown Court sentenced the attacker to six years in prison, minus time on remand, and ordered automatic deportation on release. He will also remain on the sex offenders register for life. The court heard the victim had conditions affecting his ability to recognise danger. Two teenage witnesses intervened, took him to the police and were later commended and rewarded for ensuring justice was done.
