When Graduation Gowns Become Fashion Shows: A Call for Parental Guidance
I recently saw photos of secondary school students in graduation gowns posing like fashion models. Heavy makeup, skimpy outfits and camera angles belong to adult pages, not school albums. Graduation should celebrate growth, discipline and learning. When a 14-year-old is sexualized for likes, we confuse achievement with exposure and teach them to chase validation. Without adult guidance, smartphones and social media will shape our children’s values. The camera doesn’t know the difference between confidence and exposure. Only parenting does. So as parents and guardians: ask “why” before you say “yes”. Set standards early and teach that modesty is wisdom. Monitor their phones and celebrate character over aesthetics.
