Makinde Predicts 2027 Electorate Will Reject Federal Pressure

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde says the use of federal might to sway the 2027 elections will fail. Speaking at the University of Ibadan tourism summit, he insisted Nigerians will “show politicians pepper” and actively choose their leaders. He added that while he may recommend a successor, the ultimate decision rests with the people of Oyo. Makinde warned that electing an unqualified candidate could have lasting negative impacts on the state. Addressing speculation around his preferred candidate, he emphasised that loyalty to Oyo and proven capacity to govern are the key criteria. His administration, he said, has built structures to ensure continuity beyond his tenure.
