Nigeria Must Embrace Trade-Driven Diplomacy for Sustainable Growth
A new policy report from a leading African development centre urges Nigeria to overhaul its foreign policy towards strategic trade and investment partnerships. It warns that symbolic diplomacy has failed to deliver industrial growth, infrastructure development, job creation, or export expansion. The research highlights priority relationships with China, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, South Africa and India. It argues that aligning foreign policy with economic objectives has driven accelerated transformation in other nations. Key recommendations include adopting a results-driven framework that ties diplomatic agreements to measurable outcomes. The report proposes Policy-as-a-Platform (PaaP) and Results-as-a-Service (RaaS) for digitally trackable execution, turning embassies into active trade and investment hubs. “The difference between signing agreements and delivering measurable results lies in execution,” the report states. It calls for joint economic implementation councils to ensure that international deals translate into real prosperity for Nigeria.
