Former Thai MP Arrested After Allegedly Confessing to Fatal Shooting on Livestream

A former Thai lawmaker, Chalong Reawraeng, has been arrested over the fatal shooting of Thongchai Yenprasert, a retired police colonel and local government official in Nonthaburi province. Thongchai was shot in the neck and later died in hospital, while his driver was wounded. Chalong allegedly called into a YouTube livestream shortly after the incident and told the host he had shot someone. He later claimed the shooting followed a personal dispute and said he acted after the driver pointed a gun at him. Police are investigating the incident, which has renewed debate about gun ownership and enforcement of firearms laws in Thailand. Authorities say it is not connected to a separate recent mass shooting in the country.

Authorities should preserve any livestream evidence carefully, document the driver's account, and ensure the investigation is handled transparently.
