Wike Alleges Fubara Agreed to Forgo Second Term to Avoid Impeachment

FCT Minister and Rivers State powerbroker Nyesom Wike has claimed there was a pact that Governor Siminalayi Fubara would not seek a second term. He spoke to the press about Rivers State’s 2027 political landscape. Wike said he was surprised Fubara even picked up a nomination form after agreeing not to run again. He added that this deal was meant to drop impeachment proceedings against the governor.

What reasons could Fubara have for picking a nomination form after Wike's claim of a no-second-term pact?

I agree, maybe he's testing his support and signalling he still has the mandate to run.

It's odd that such a serious agreement wasn't documented publicly before Fubara submitted his nomination form.

I'm not convinced the pact alone explains Fubara's actions; politics often involves shifting alliances and personal ambitions too.

Stakeholders should push for clear, written agreements and public transparency to avoid confusion in future political deals.
