Security Crisis Prompts Sokoto East Senator Lamido to Leave APC

Senator Ibrahim Lamido of Sokoto East has announced his decision to quit the All Progressives Congress. He said the worsening banditry in the district made it impossible to stay in the party. Speaking to journalists in Sokoto on Friday, Lamido described the security situation as alarming. He said armed groups have attacked many villages, forcing residents to abandon their homes and halting farming and other economic activities. He added that extensive consultations with traditional rulers, political stakeholders and supporters showed a demand for a new political direction. He said the move was driven by his duty to stand with his constituents, not personal ambition. Lamido urged the federal government to step up efforts to tackle banditry across the North-West. He warned that unchecked violence could deepen the humanitarian crisis in communities like Sabon Birni, Isa and Rabah.

It sounds like political posturing more than genuine concern, given many lawmakers also complain about insecurity without resigning.

I dey wonder if quitting a party actually helps curb banditry, or just shifts blame without real action.

Local leaders and security agencies should hold regular public forums in Sokoto East to map out community-based strategies against bandit groups.
