NAATIP Rescues 11 Liberian Children, Arrests Nigerian Couple for Trafficking
The Gambia’s National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP) has rescued eleven Liberian nationals, including seven minors and four young adults aged 12 to 19, from exploitative labour conditions. They were discovered working without pay at a construction site. Investigations show the victims were recruited from Liberia by a 60-year-old Nigerian national, Mr. Bola, and his wife under the false promise of school enrollment and vocational training. Instead, the children were forced into unpaid construction work and denied education. The rescued youths are now in protective custody receiving psychosocial support and care under The Gambia’s Trafficking in Persons Act. NAATIP is collaborating with local and Liberian authorities to trace the full trafficking network and identify additional victims. NAATIP urges the public to report any suspected cases of trafficking, child exploitation, or forced labour to law enforcement. The agency condemns all forms of human trafficking and remains committed to prosecuting perpetrators and protecting vulnerable individuals.
