Operation Hadin Kai: Why Is Maj. Gen. Abubakar Still in Command After Two Generals’ Deaths?

Operation Hadin Kai: Why Is Maj. Gen. Abubakar Still in Command After Two Generals’ Deaths?

I’m not a military expert, but I’m deeply concerned about our Army’s leadership. Since Maj. Gen. A. E. Abubakar took over Operation Hadin Kai in 2025, two Brigadier Generals under him—Uba and Braimah—have died in separate attacks. In the Army, losing a general usually points to strategic or intelligence failures, yet no thorough inquiry has been announced. Under past chiefs like Buratai and Ihejirika, such losses would lead to immediate investigations and sanctions. For example, a commander was retired after failing to act on advance intelligence that cost an Air Force general his life. Reports suggest there was three days’ warning before Gen. Braimah’s death. Why hasn’t Lt. Gen. Shaibu, the current COAS and Abubakar’s friend from Kogi, held him accountable? We can’t afford weakened leadership while Boko Haram regroups in the Northeast. Is personal loyalty taking precedence over competence? The Army must explain why a commander who’s lost two generals in six months remains in charge, and launch a transparent investigation.

You got a point—guess he's got powerful allies or simply no one else ready for the job.

Switching commanders hastily might disrupt ongoing operations and affect troop morale, even if replacing him seems necessary at first glance.

Review a clear chain-of-command contingency plan and ensure transparent reporting on senior officer rotations after any casualty.
