Lagos Resident Blames Coastal Road Project for Severe Flooding in Her Neighborhood

Lagos Resident Blames Coastal Road Project for Severe Flooding in Her Neighborhood — 1 of 4
1 / 4

A Lagos resident filmed her street under deep floodwater and pointed the camera at the nearby Coastal Road. She says they’ve never seen flooding this bad. “This is my street and this is the Lagos Coastal Road,” she says. “I love the idea of the Coastal Road, but look at the havoc it’s causing.” She explains a large canal on the other side of the road never fills, but the new road has cut it off. The narrow gutters—less than four feet across—can’t handle the water, so it spills into homes. The video shows her wading through murky water in boots, with cars and buildings half-submerged. She insists an underpass or better drainage is needed to stop this crisis.

Local associations should document flood levels before and after construction, then share data with authorities to push for proper drainage solutions.
