Ex-Minister Turaki Remanded to Kuje After Failing to Meet ₦100M Bail Terms
Senior lawyer and former minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki was remanded to Kuje Correctional Facility after he could not perfect the ₦100 million bail granted by the Federal High Court in Abuja. Turaki faces a charge of providing false information to the Inspector-General of Police over an alleged petition he filed in October 2022. He pleaded not guilty and had a bench warrant vacated when he voluntarily appeared in court earlier this month. Justice Peter Kekemeke set bail at ₦100 million with one surety who must be a Senior Advocate of Nigeria or a senior legal practitioner. Turaki could not produce the required surety and documentation, so he remains in custody pending compliance. The trial is adjourned to June 11, 2026, for commencement of proceedings.
