Former Arsenal Goalkeeper Alex Manninger Dies in Tragic Road Accident

Former Arsenal and Austria goalkeeper Alex Manninger has died in a road accident, his first club Red Bull Salzburg announced on social media. He was 48 and part of Arsenal’s 1997/98 double-winning squad. He made seven Premier League appearances and helped save a penalty in the FA Cup semi-final shootout. Manninger featured for the Gunners from 1997 to 2002 before playing in Serie A, the Austrian Bundesliga and the German Bundesliga. He also earned 33 caps for Austria and was in their Euro 2008 squad. Arsenal and his former clubs have expressed shock and sent condolences to his family and friends at this sad time.

His tenure at Salzburg and Arsenal might look small on paper, yet his penalty save shows he thrived under pressure.
