Youth Party Sets April 25, 2026 for National Convention and Launches Membership Reforms

Youth Party Sets April 25, 2026 for National Convention and Launches Membership Reforms

The Youth Party has scheduled its National Convention for April 25, 2026. This move aims to strengthen internal democracy and lay the groundwork for the 2027 general elections. All members, new and existing, must revalidate their status using a valid National Identification Number (NIN). Ward, local government and state congresses will take place on April 4, April 11 and April 18, 2026, respectively, ahead of the final convention. A clear timetable and appeals process are in place for each stage of the exercise. Primaries will follow a One Member, One Vote model with electronic voting and INEC monitoring to ensure transparency. Nomination forms went on sale in March and close in late May, with a structured screening and appeal process to follow. Nomination fees vary by office, with a 50% discount for women, youths and persons with disabilities. The party invites interested Nigerians to complete registration and participate in building a more inclusive platform. Members are encouraged to contact the party for more details on registration and congress arrangements.

Could you clarify which regions you're most concerned about when it comes to young people accessing valid IDs?

Are you certain the ID rule will change turnout equally, or will it widen gaps between well-documented and undocumented youths?

This membership shake-up seems straightforward, but I wonder if it really addresses internal power struggles or just adds bureaucratic hurdles.

I'm not convinced that all members will revalidate in time; many youths might skip the process and stay disengaged.

Organisers should set up mobile registration units in underserved communities to simplify revalidation and encourage more young members to complete the process.
