Angélique Kidjo Set to Become First Black African Artist With a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star
Five-time Grammy winner Angélique Kidjo will receive the 2,854th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on 18 August. The Beninese music icon is set to become the first Black African artist to receive the honour in the Recording category. The ceremony will take place on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, with actor Willem Dafoe and Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. expected to attend. Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez praised Kidjo's global artistic influence and cultural impact. Kidjo has released 18 albums across a career spanning more than four decades. Known for blending West African sounds with funk, jazz and R&B, she has collaborated with artists including Burna Boy, Davido, Ayra Starr, Sting and Alicia Keys. She is also recognised for her advocacy for children's rights and education across Africa.
