Okota Rotary Club Empowers Lagos Students with ‘Service Above Self’ Essay Challenge
The Rotary Club of Okota organised an essay competition for Lagos State secondary schools under the theme “Service Above Self.” The initiative aims to revive reading and writing culture and nurture a new generation of selfless leaders. Club President Kingsley Chijioke explained that youth development and character building are at the heart of Rotary’s mission. Winners received cash prizes, plaques and certificates, with first place earning ₦50,000. Rotarian Dr. Caroline Ogbaji highlighted the event as part of Youth Service Month, while incoming President Abidemi Sogunle encouraged students to balance technology with creativity and critical thinking. The club plans a mathematics quiz and leadership training opportunities for outstanding participants.
