Four Injured Kidnappers Die After Orire Rescue, Others to Face Prosecution
Former DSS Assistant Director-General Mohammed Ngoshe says four suspected terrorists critically wounded during the Orire schoolchildren rescue later died in hospital. Security forces also arrested alleged collaborators and family members and ramped up pressure on the group. Ngoshe explained that the kidnappers tried to negotiate release terms, but their demands were rejected. They feared harming the pupils once they realised detained associates would face serious consequences. Security personnel from the army, police and other agencies surrounded the hideout in Oyo Forest. They cut off food, weapons and informants. During the final phase, troops came under attack from an improvised explosive device that killed three officers. Some suspects were killed on the scene. Four who were critically injured later died in hospital. The remaining suspects, including those with minor wounds, are being prepared for prosecution.
