Prof. Peter Olapegba Appointed 14th Vice-Chancellor of University of Ibadan
The University of Ibadan’s Governing Council has named Professor Peter Olamakinde Olapegba as the institution’s 14th substantive Vice-Chancellor. His appointment follows a thorough selection process overseen by a Joint Council-Senate Selection Board. Advertisements for the role ran in national newspapers, drawing six initial applicants. A search committee invited two more qualified candidates, bringing the total to eight. After individual interviews and merit-based scoring, five finalists were shortlisted for a final assessment. The council, chaired by Chief Adebisi Akande, described the exercise as transparent and competitive. Professor Olapegba, currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) and a psychology professor, will take office when the incumbent’s tenure ends on November 1, 2026.
