How Humility Can Defuse Offense After Victory

This devotional reflects on Gideon’s response when the men of Ephraim confronted him after Israel’s victory over Midian. Though they accused him of excluding them from the battle, Gideon did not respond with pride or anger. He acknowledged their contribution and eased the tension. The lesson is that progress can sometimes trigger resentment in people who feel overlooked or left behind. Responding with humility, honour and a soft answer can prevent unnecessary conflict from damaging relationships. Prayer: Father, give me grace to respond with humility when others are offended by my progress. Help me to honour others instead of defending myself in anger. Let needless conflict not steal the peace that follows victory, in Jesus’ name. Further reading: Judges 8:1–3, Proverbs 15:1 and Romans 12:18. Bible reading plan: Psalms 86–89 and Acts 27:27–44.
