Troops Arrest Three Over Deadly Ambush, Recover Stolen Army Rifles

Troops have arrested three suspects linked to the May 4 ambush that killed one soldier and injured another in the Niger Delta region. The arrests followed intelligence-led operations by troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade under Operation UDOKA, working with the 181 Battalion, across Delta and Rivers states on July 31. The suspects were arrested in Oleh, Delta State, after allegedly going into hiding. Military authorities said the suspects led troops to hideouts in Rivers State, where soldiers recovered an AK-47 rifle and an FN rifle reportedly stolen during the ambush. Other recovered items included five additional AK-47 rifles, pistols, ammunition, military uniforms, protective equipment and mobile phones. The suspects are in military custody and are expected to be handed over for further investigation and prosecution.
