Nigeria Deploys 86 Soldiers for ECOWAS Stabilisation Mission in Guinea-Bissau

The Nigerian Army has deployed 86 personnel to the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau. The troops, known as Nigerian Company 5, departed Abuja aboard a Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft to begin their assignment under the ECOWAS mandate. Before departure, army authorities urged the personnel to maintain professionalism and discipline, respect Guinea-Bissau’s laws and customs, and uphold zero tolerance for sexual exploitation, substance abuse and misuse of social media. The mission supports security-sector reform and political stability in Guinea-Bissau, which has experienced repeated political crises and military interventions. The deployment also reflects Nigeria’s continuing role in ECOWAS peacekeeping as West Africa confronts coups, insurgency and instability across the region.
