Troops Wipe Out Bandit Camps in Bauchi Forest, Offer Surrender Window
Governor Bala Mohammed has confirmed that the Nigerian Army, working with the police, security agencies and vigilantes, launched a successful operation against bandits in Bauchi State. Troops targeted the Dajin Malam Forest corridor linking Bauchi, Plateau and Taraba. They neutralised many fighters, destroyed camps, motorcycles and supply routes. Four warplanes bombed remaining enclaves, forcing criminals to flee under sustained pressure. The state government has opened a temporary surrender window. This is not amnesty, but a supervised chance for bandits to lay down their arms and reintegrate. Plans are in place to relocate surrendering fighters and their families, most of whom are non-indigenes. Authorities will conduct biometric data capture in affected communities and strengthen surveillance, intelligence-led monitoring and community vigilantes. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and cooperate with security forces to prevent the re-emergence of criminal hideouts.
