Benue Police Rescue All 15 Abducted JAMB Candidates, Arrest Suspected Herdsmen
The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the safe rescue of all 15 passengers abducted along the Makurdi–Otukpo highway. The victims included Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board candidates en route to their exams and were freed unhurt after a coordinated security operation. Commissioner of Police Ifeanyi Emenari briefed Governor Hyacinth Alia, explaining that an initial release of five occupants paved the way for the recovery of the remaining 13 on Sunday morning. Tactical teams deployed by the Inspector-General forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives. Eyewitness accounts and victim testimonies have identified militia herdsmen as the perpetrators. Authorities now hold eight suspects in custody, seven of whom are alleged herdsmen linked to the abduction.
