Canada Proposes Single Express Entry Stream for Skilled Immigrants
Canada’s immigration department plans to replace its three separate Express Entry streams—the Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, and Skilled Trades Program—with one unified Federal High-Skilled Class. Under the proposal, applicants would need just one year of cumulative skilled work experience in TEER 0-3, a high school diploma, and language proficiency at CLB/NCLC level 6. This simplifies current rules and treats foreign and Canadian experience equally. The points system would shift focus to high earnings, job offers, and labour-market outcomes while removing bonuses for Canadian study and siblings abroad. Public consultations are expected in Spring 2026, with possible implementation in late 2026 or early 2027. Until the changes are finalized, the existing streams remain active and candidates can still receive invitations under current rules.
