Atiku Warns of Deepening Hardship for Nigerian Workers After Fuel Subsidy Removal

Atiku Warns of Deepening Hardship for Nigerian Workers After Fuel Subsidy Removal — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar says Nigerian workers are bearing the brunt of recent economic reforms. In a Workers’ Day message, he criticised the removal of the fuel subsidy as hasty and poorly structured, driving up the cost of transport, food and essential goods. He pointed out that wages have not kept pace with rising prices. Trillions of naira saved from subsidy cuts, he argued, have yet to translate into any improvement in Nigerians’ daily lives, raising questions about transparency and priorities. Atiku called on the government to introduce wage adjustments, expand social support programmes and boost investment in healthcare and education. He stressed that real growth must improve living conditions for ordinary workers. Reaffirming his solidarity with Nigerian workers, he urged the administration to act now and prevent further suffering.
