Lagos Strengthens Fire Safety with 11 New Stations, Saves ₦118bn in Property

The Lagos State Government has boosted its emergency response by adding 11 new fire stations and deploying 62 modern firefighting vehicles. The Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters has been rebuilt and 150 new firefighters are training at an upgraded academy. At the Lagos International Fire Safety Conference 3.0, Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat revealed that responders rescued over 1,900 lives and protected ₦118 billion worth of property in 2025. Lagos now has 29 active stations, with more under construction in Yaba, Ikotun, and Oworonshoki. The government is shifting focus toward prevention through stricter inspections, a Fire Safety Levy, public education, and a new Fire Marshal Programme. This initiative trains volunteers in homes, schools, markets, and workplaces to spot risks early and assist during emergencies. Officials emphasized that safety is a shared responsibility. They called for innovation, community participation, and sustained investment to keep Lagosians safe from fire disasters.
