A Roadmap to Ending Nigeria's Fuel Crisis: A Citizen’s Perspective
The fuel crisis in Nigeria is more than an economic issue. It affects families, businesses, and the entire economy. Despite being an oil-rich nation, we struggle with shortages and high pump prices. President Tinubu promised bold reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies. This move aims for long-term fiscal health but has increased hardship for many Nigerians. It is time to pair these reforms with practical solutions that bring relief at the pumps. I propose six strategic steps. First, fully commission the Dangote Refinery to reduce imports. Second, build a strategic national fuel reserve to stabilize supply. Third, form a West African energy partnership for cost sharing. Fourth, invest in CNG and renewable energy to lower generator use. Fifth, toughen enforcement against hoarding and black market trade. Finally, use Nigeria’s diplomatic voice to push for peace in the Middle East and steady global oil flows. These measures can restore affordable fuel, ease living costs, and unlock Nigeria’s true potential. President Tinubu has the vision and influence to deliver these solutions. Nigeria deserves an energy-secure future—let us make it happen.
