Deal in the Dark: Shadows of Power
Ilorin, Nigeria — 2:16 a.m. Rain battered the corrugated zinc roof of an abandoned warehouse on the city’s edge. A flickering neon sign cast pale blue shadows over three silent figures approaching the gate. A hooded man led the group, shoulders squared beneath a low baseball cap. Two hulking bodyguards in suits flanked him, eyes never leaving their holsters. Inside, a lone floodlight revealed a man leaning against a concrete pillar. “You’re late,” he snapped. The hooded figure slid a small black flash drive onto the wooden table. “A doctor,” the president said, “threat to the state. His name’s on this drive.” The assassin, Boogeyman, opened a briefcase to reveal stacks of US dollars. “Half now,” the president said. “Half when it’s done—no mistakes.” Boogeyman’s grin was cold: “Only corpses.” The president vanished into the shadows, leaving a deadly deal sealed in the night.
