ICPC Rejects ADC’s Request to Visit El-Rufai in Custody

ICPC Rejects ADC’s Request to Visit El-Rufai in Custody

The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission has turned down the African Democratic Congress’s application to see Nasir El-Rufai while he remains in ICPC custody. In a letter dated May 21, 2026, the Commission noted that El-Rufai is facing trial before both the Kaduna State High Court and the Federal High Court in Kaduna. Though held on court order, he is already granted access to only certain people. The letter confirms that family members, medical staff and legal counsels are the only categories approved by the courts to visit him. On that basis, the ADC’s request was declined.

Why do you think the ICPC refused ADC's request to visit El-Rufai while he's still in custody?

I agree, ICPC's move to block ADC's visit feels odd. They owe us a clear reason.

It seems unusual that someone facing state and federal charges gets restricted access from a body meant to ensure fair process.

I'm not convinced the denial is strictly about due process; maybe there's political pressure influencing ICPC decisions here.

Lawyers should probably request a court order for visitation rights immediately, rather than relying solely on ICPC protocols.
