Hi-Five’s Russell Neal: From R&B Fame to Murder Allegations

Russell Neal rose to fame in 1989 as a founding member of the platinum-selling R&B group Hi-Five. Born in Waco, Texas, in the early 1970s, he enjoyed several Top 10 hits before leaving the spotlight. His personal life took a tragic turn when his wife, fitness model Catherine Martinez, was fatally stabbed in July 2014. Neal reported the incident days later and has since faced accusations of domestic abuse and murder. The couple’s two young sons were placed in their grandmother’s custody after the arrest. Russell’s younger brother, Ronald Neal, was convicted in a separate 2008 murder case, adding a further dark chapter to the family story. Today, Russell is held at Rusk State Hospital in Texas as legal proceedings continue. Despite his estimated $10 million net worth from music royalties, his career remains overshadowed by these violent allegations and ongoing court battles.
