Tolu School City Is a Great Start, but Lagos Must Invest Beyond Buildings

Governor Sanwo-Olu deserves credit for transforming Ajegunle’s Tolu Schools Complex into a modern “school city.” With 36 schools serving thousands, new classrooms will ease overcrowding and improve learning environments. Yet infrastructure is only one piece of the puzzle. Lagos needs more teachers, up-to-date learning materials, and consistent maintenance to sustain these gains. Similar upgrades should extend beyond this showcase project to public schools across the state. Effective management of a complex this size is crucial to improve student outcomes, reduce dropouts, and build a solid educational foundation for Lagos’s future as a digital and economic hub.

Allocating part of the education budget to teacher workshops and resource materials would complement infrastructure and improve outcomes across all 36 schools.
