Tobi Amusan Headlines Nigeria’s 45-Strong Squad for CAA Championships in Accra

Nigeria’s Athletics Federation has announced a 45-member team for the upcoming CAA Senior Championships in Accra. The squad includes 25 women and 20 men, blending established stars with rising talents. World record holder Tobi Amusan leads the women’s 100m hurdles alongside Adaobi Tabugbo and Janet Sunday. Sprint sensation Rosemary Chukwuma will contest the 100m and anchor the 4×100m relay with Miracle Ezechukwu, Maria Thompson Omokwe and Tejiri Ugoh. Other key women’s athletes include Patience Okon George, long jumper Ruth Usoro and hammer throw specialist Oyesade Olatoye. On the men’s side, 100m ace Favour Ashe and shot put leader Chukwuebuka Enekwechi headline the challenge. The sprint roster features Enoch Adegoke, Usheoritse Itsekiri and Chidera Ezakor, while Emmanuel Ojeli, Samson Nathaniel and Chidi Okezie bolster the 4×400m relay. Field events will see competitors such as Romeo Bernard and javelin thrower Adams Samuel Kure. This championship in Accra will serve as a major test ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, giving Nigeria’s athletes a chance to sharpen their form against Africa’s best.

Despite a solid mix of stars and newcomers, the team's medal prospects will hinge on consistency, especially in sprint hurdles events.

You're spot on. With Tobi steering the ship, consistency in those sprint hurdles could really turn the tide.

I'm not convinced Tobi Amusan's presence alone will elevate the whole squad without stronger relay line.

The federation should schedule more joint training sessions for the men's and women's teams before the championships to build cohesion.
