Police Recover Newborn Allegedly Stolen From Gboko Hospital, Arrest Suspects

The Benue State Police Command says it has recovered a newborn allegedly stolen from a hospital in Gboko and arrested suspects linked to the case. Police spokesperson Peter Aondongu said some suspects have been moved to the state headquarters in Makurdi, while others remain in custody at the Gboko Division. The baby was reportedly taken a few hours after birth by a woman alleged to have posed as a nurse. The mother reportedly handed over the child for an examination before the woman disappeared with the newborn. Police investigations are ongoing.

Recovery and arrests are important, but it is too early to treat the case as fully resolved before the allegations are properly investigated.

Hospitals should review visitor access, staff identification, and newborn handover procedures, while police provide clear updates without compromising the investigation.
