JAMB Abolishes Affiliated Degree Admissions in Colleges of Education

JAMB has announced that from the 2026/2027 session, no new admissions will be offered into affiliated degree programmes at Colleges of Education. All fresh entrants must now gain entry through the Nigeria Certificate in Education route. The policy appears in the Board’s NCE/ND Agric Registration Guidelines released in June 2026. It also bars direct entry into 100 and 200 levels, requiring candidates to complete the NCE before progressing. This reform ends decades of university partnerships that allowed Colleges of Education to award degrees through affiliation. Thousands of applicants who sought degree courses via affiliated colleges in the next admission cycle will be affected.

Cutting off affiliated degree routes could leave many aspirants stranded without clear guidance on the new NCE entry process.

This feels more like a policy shuffle than a real effort to improve teacher education standards.

Schools and students should start preparing for NCE exams early, maybe join mock training programs to adapt smoothly to the new requirements.
