My Encounter with Otunba Gbenga Daniel at Conference Hotel, Ijebu Ode
I returned home for the Ileya and Ojude Oba festivities. I spent the afternoon at Conference Hotel in Ijebu Ode—one of Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s intra–state franchises. The lobby was nearly empty, a sign of our current economic slump. I ran into Otunba Daniel as he supervised hotel renovations. He told me he won’t run for Senate again and is refocusing on business. I suggested reviving the gym and boosting sales at the in-house boutique. He immediately phoned the manager and ordered two large treadmills. He also toured the boutique after I pitched my Maldives Clothing line for future supplies. He thanked me but politely declined photos. Walking away, I realised that without political funds propping things up, his hotel will feel the full weight of Nigeria’s economic crunch. Unfortunately, the only proof of our meeting was the hotel Wi-Fi network name.
