Nigerian Man Who Claimed to Be ‘King of East London’ Issues Apology

Solomon Obona Ezekiel, a Nigerian living in South Africa’s Buffalo City Municipality, has apologised for styling himself as the “King of East London.” He says he never officially claimed the royal title and instead meant to introduce himself as a “Chief.” The self-proclaimed title caused unrest in the city. So far, Mayor Princess Faku has not asked the Department of Home Affairs to open an investigation or press charges against him. The episode highlights how quickly such claims can spread online.
