Tunji-Ojo Urges Unified Security Effort Ahead of AFRIDEX 2026

Tunji-Ojo Urges Unified Security Effort Ahead of AFRIDEX 2026 — 1 of 2
1 / 2

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has urged all security and intelligence agencies to strengthen cooperation and act as a unified front against Nigeria’s evolving security threats. He made these remarks as he welcomed the AFRIDEX 2026 organising team in Abuja. He highlighted the importance of inter-agency synergy and innovation, stressing that sustainable progress in defence and security depends on partnerships rather than isolated efforts. The minister also commended AFRIDEX as a platform for showcasing young innovators in digital technology and cybersecurity. Tunji-Ojo recommended making the exhibition an annual event and called for a dedicated visa support desk to smooth entry for international participants. He emphasised that deeper collaboration and open communication among agencies are essential to securing the nation and maximising the event’s impact.

It's telling that agencies still need a call for unity every time a major event approaches. Consistent coordination should be standard practice.

Unified effort sounds great in theory, but turf battles and jurisdictional disputes will likely undermine these calls unless concrete mechanisms are put in place.

Agencies could start joint intelligence briefings and cross-agency training seminars before AFRIDEX 2026. Regular drills might cement that unified approach Tunji-Ojo envisions.
