Darwin Núñez's Trabzonspor Move Raises Questions Over Onuachu's Role

Darwin Núñez's Trabzonspor Move Raises Questions Over Onuachu's Role

Trabzonspor have reportedly reached an agreement in principle to sign Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez on loan from Al-Hilal ahead of the new season. The move could increase competition for Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu, who was one of the Turkish Süper Lig's standout scorers in the 2025/26 season. Onuachu finished with 23 league goals, sharing the Golden Boot with Eldor Shomurodov. Núñez's arrival may limit Onuachu's starting opportunities, although the Nigerian striker is reportedly not pushing for an exit despite links with Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe.

Onuachu being among the league's standout scorers makes this an interesting situation; added competition can change a forward's season quickly.

A loan agreement does not automatically mean Onuachu's role will shrink. Strong teams need options, especially across a full season.

Trabzonspor should assess which striker suits each opponent rather than treating this as a straight replacement battle.
