Dariye Urges Peace After Mushere Senior District Head’s Removal

Dariye Urges Peace After Mushere Senior District Head’s Removal

Former governor Joshua Dariye has called on Mushere residents to remain calm following the removal of Dr Julius Dabilang as Senior District Head of Mushere in Bokkos LGA. He spoke at an expanded stakeholders’ meeting in Jos, urging unity and respect for due process. Dabilang’s appointment by the state government was challenged in a petition citing his 2023 conviction by a Nasarawa High Court. The controversy led to a dramatic protest in which women marched naked through Mushere streets—a practice unheard of in local tradition. Dariye praised the legality of the removal but criticized the government’s poor communication. He urged the swift appointment of an acting district head and appealed for reconciliation. Senior Advocate Gideon Kuttu and Mushere Youth Movement President Kopmut Shadrach also affirmed the legal basis for the removal and pledged to sensitize the community to prevent further unrest.

Calling for calm is fine, but unity can't thrive if residents believe their local leader was ousted without adequate consultation first.
