Delta Court Sentences Two Men to Death for Murder of DELSU First-Class Student Elozino Ogege
A Delta State High Court sitting in Ogwashi-Uku has sentenced Macaulay Desmond Oghenemaro and Enaike Onoriode to death by hanging for the kidnapping and murder of Elozino Joshualia Ogege, a first-class Mass Communication student of Delta State University, Abraka. Ogege was abducted in 2018 after she was reportedly lured with the promise of securing off-campus accommodation. Prosecutors said she was killed in a suspected ritual-related crime. The case lasted about nine years and was delayed repeatedly, including by the absence of counsel for one of the defendants. Justice Flora Ngozi Azinge convicted the two men of offences including kidnapping, conspiracy to murder and murder. A third defendant was discharged and acquitted, while a fourth defendant, a native doctor, died during the trial. Delta State's Solicitor-General said the judgment offers the family some closure and should serve as a warning against ritual killings and other get-rich-quick crimes.
