Open Letter: Pastors and ‘Yeyebrities’, Why the Silence on Kidnappings?
The silence from the General Overseer of Redeem Church is deafening. Unlike during Goodluck Jonathan’s era, when he once led a demonstration, these religious leaders stayed quiet while kidnappings continue. Yesterday, Sam Adeyemi hosted an Arsenal match viewing instead of calling for action. If Jesus returned and his disciples were abducted, would he stay silent? If the families of our pastors had been the victims, would their leaders treat this crisis so casually? Our so-called ‘yeyebrities’—Rema, Wizkid, Burna Boy, bloggers and influencers—have nothing to say. They’d rather debate Frank Edoho, Chike, or the late Phyna. Nigerians deserve stronger voices in times of crisis. After all, every nation gets the leadership it deserves.
