Powering a Just Energy Transition in Africa through Technology
Africa needs a fair, gradual shift in energy systems. Technology and innovation can make this possible while ensuring reliable and affordable power. Decentralised solutions like mini-grids, off-grid solar, smart grids and modern batteries are already extending electricity access. Local entrepreneurs are building pay-as-you-go solar models and community-run systems that create jobs and skills. Yet Africa faces a funding gap. The continent needs around $90 billion each year for a successful energy transition. Clear policies, supportive regulations and regional collaboration can attract more investment and scale up clean energy projects. Reliable power fuels industrial growth, lights homes and clinics, and powers the digital economy. By working together and investing in homegrown solutions, Africa can build a resilient, inclusive and sustainable energy future.
