Over 600 Artworks Shine at ‘The Coalition’ Exhibition in Ibadan
Ibadan’s Conference Centre at IITA Moniya transformed into a vibrant showcase as 60 artists from across Nigeria brought over 600 works to life under the theme “The Coalition.” The event ran from April 23 to 25, filling the halls with colour, culture and rich storytelling. Convener Dunmade Ayegbayo shared how his team worked tirelessly to create a platform celebrating both the cultural and financial value of art. He noted a post-COVID shift in appreciation and the growing view of artworks as long-term investments. Visitors connected deeply with the pieces. Ogo-Oluwa Christianah’s bold use of lips explored African identity. Okunade Olamilekan’s box-like forms reflected his experience growing up with a strong single mother. Gobe Joseph’s everyday scenes drew viewers into familiar moments, while Segun Ajao’s mysterious compositions invited quiet reflection. Collectors attended in large numbers, engaging with artists and learning the meaning behind each piece before making their choices. The exhibition proved that art can unite voices, spark discovery and leave a lasting impression.
