Court Orders Refund of Lobola with Interest After Wife’s Affair with Husband’s Nephew
A traditional court in Zimbabwe has ruled that a woman’s parents must repay the bride price with 10% annual interest after she admitted to an affair with her husband’s nephew. Chief Mutasa delivered the judgment following a complaint from Aleck Magadu, who described the betrayal and now bears sole responsibility for their four children. He discovered the relationship through messages on his wife’s phone and took his case to the traditional court. The court gave the bride’s parents until August 2026 to refund the lobola. The nephew must also pay seven cattle and seven cocks as compensation by September 2026. The chief suggested DNA tests for all children to clarify paternity and prevent future disputes.
