Edo Police Arrest Two Over Alleged ₦400m Vandalism of AIT Equipment

Edo State Police Command has arrested two suspects accused of breaking into the Africa Independent Television station in Benin and vandalising transmission equipment reportedly worth more than ₦400 million. Police said Martins Donatus, 26, and Mohammed Abubakar, 28, were arrested on August 10 at the AIT premises on Benin–Idogbo Road in Ikhueniro Community. The station is currently off air. The Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, said the suspects allegedly removed master-control transmission equipment worth about ₦150 million. One suspect reportedly admitted that the station was vandalised on three occasions and that copper wires were sold for about ₦200,000. Police said investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged in court after they are concluded. The command also paraded other suspects, including a man accused of luring and kidnapping a woman he met on TikTok.
