Chelsea Sign Pep Chavarria From Rayo Vallecano in £18m Deal

Chelsea have signed Spanish left-back Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano on a five-year deal worth a reported £16.3 million, with up to £1.7 million in add-ons. The 28-year-old becomes Xabi Alonso’s 11th signing of the summer. Chavarria arrives after making 125 appearances for Rayo Vallecano. He scored once and registered three assists last season, while his defensive displays in La Liga reportedly helped convince Chelsea to pursue the deal. The defender said joining Chelsea was a dream move and promised to work hard for trophies. He could make his first appearance in the friendly against Real Sociedad on August 15, ahead of a possible Premier League debut against Fulham on August 24.
