Ijebu Ode Parents Demand Answers After Students Fall Ill from Mysterious Gas Leak

Ijebu Ode Parents Demand Answers After Students Fall Ill from Mysterious Gas Leak

More than 30 students at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School were hospitalised after inhaling an unidentified gas on campus. While some have been discharged, a few remain under observation as health workers monitor their progress. Days later, a foul odour reappeared across several Ijebu Ode neighbourhoods, sparking fears of an ongoing environmental threat. Residents say the silence from authorities has deepened their anxiety. Ogun State’s Health Commissioner, Ola Oresanya, says extra gas analysers are being installed in hotspots like Oke Aje, Epe Garage and Ilese Barracks. Initial checks have ruled out pipeline leaks and industrial emissions, he added. Officials promise a full report within 48 hours and pledged measures to prevent a repeat. In the meantime, families remain on edge, awaiting clear answers.
