Navy Chief Vows to Complete War College Site and Other Key Projects

Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, the Chief of Naval Staff, pledged to finish all abandoned projects left by his predecessors. He made this promise while presenting his paper to Naval Warfare Course 10 at the Naval War College in Calabar. In his “Vision and Mission of the CNS” address, Abbas aligned his goals with the Nigerian Navy Strategic Plan 2021–2030. He outlined plans to boost fleet readiness, enhance maritime security, promote the blue economy and deepen regional cooperation. He organized these reforms into short-, medium- and long-term timelines. Top priorities include completing the permanent site for the War College, the Naval Hotel in Calabar and establishing a Naval School of Nursing. He also announced the creation of a Nigerian Navy Leadership Academy, a Cyber Command and a Public Information and Intelligence School. Rear Admiral Mohammed Nuye, Commandant of the Naval College, encouraged the 34 Course 10 officers—26 Navy, one Army, one Air Force and four foreign participants—to absorb all lessons and apply them in their roles.

What criteria will Vice Admiral Abbas use to prioritize which abandoned projects get completed first across naval stations nationwide?

You nailed it—curious how he'll rank projects. Hope he'll run us through that prioritisation roadmap soon!

Spot on! I'm curious too about how projects get bumped to the top of the list.

It's interesting that the CNS highlighted the War College site; many other infrastructure gaps along the coastline remain unmentioned.

Promises are easy on paper, but previous chiefs also pledged project completion and fell short; how will this be different?

To ensure steady progress, the navy should publish regular status updates on each project so stakeholders can track milestones and hold leaders accountable.
