Allegation: Katsina Govt Spent N10 Million Each to Send Bandit Chiefs on Hajj
A security advocate claims the Katsina State Government quietly sponsored notorious bandit leaders to perform Hajj in Saudi Arabia, paying up to N10 million for each individual. Dr. Bashir Kurfi, convener of a local security initiative, made the allegation during a live podcast interview on a national TV channel. He said that some top bandit figures like Audu Lankai and others were not only in contact with government officials but were taken to Saudi Arabia at public expense. Kurfi argued that these sponsored trips did not aim to win the bandits to peace. Instead, he suggested the payments risked ridiculing the faith by honoring violent extremists as pilgrims. He also called for stronger community-based security structures, saying locals are best placed to identify and confront criminal elements.
