Asaba Road Landing: Jet Crew in DSS Custody as NCAA Grounds Aircraft
A foreign-registered private jet that was cleared to land at Asaba Airport instead touched down on a concrete road outside the airport perimeter, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo says. Keyamo described the June 10 incident as a serious security breach. He said the pilots and crew are in DSS custody for questioning after the aircraft later left the scene before accident investigators arrived. The US-registered Bombardier Challenger 601-3A was flying from Lagos to Asaba with four crew members and three passengers. A preliminary NSIB report said it abandoned its first approach and, on a second attempt, mistakenly landed on a road under construction near the airport. The aircraft later returned to Lagos without injuries. The NCAA has grounded it, suspended the operator's permit for non-commercial flights and opened an investigation.
